The Competition

The Competition

Today we spiced up our workout with Robbie Ray with some relay competitions. Although the goal was to support each other, there was a look of “you’re going down,” in our eyes. Kris and Molly competed against each other first. The race consisted of 10 push-ups, lunges down to the mat, 10 touch the sky, shuffle back to the other mat, 10 cobra push-ups, lunges down, 10 touch the sky and a final shuffle back. They did all of this in 1:58. Next up was John and myself. John was flying. His push-ups are killer and can touch the sky like …

N.I.L.F. :: Offensive or Ineffective

N.I.L.F. :: Offensive or Ineffective

An outdoor ad campaign started a few weeks ago for Natural Light beer. It has a background of beer, I guess, with the letters N.I.L.F. Below are the words “Natty I’d Like To Finish.” Apparently this has caused a bit of stir in conservative Wichita, KS. Clear Channel Outdoor decided this week to pull the ad after a complaint. I’m not sure but the complaint seems to have been to the Wichita Eagle rather than Clear Channel. (http://bit.ly/cJ8ksP). It seems to me that Ron Blue, Manager of Clear Channel Outdoor in Wichita, was weak in his response to the complaint. After …

Abtastic

Abtastic

Today for thinking fit we concentrated on our core. Robbie told us that as a part of the body without bone structure it’s important to train our core section to remain tight all the time. Having a solid core helps you sit up straighter and have better balance. We did planks, leg lifts, touch the sky, climb the rope and windshield wipers. We did each exercise for 20, 15, 10 and 5 seconds. Only allowing a short break between reps and exercises helps to tighten the abs. It’s also important to suck in your abs as if you are trying to …

Sweet Sweat

Sweet Sweat

Most fitness training days I am looking forward to the workout because, well, they’re fun and I know I’m getting a pay-off (you know that whole swimsuit season coming up). But today’s workout was just great. It’s beautiful outside and I was just keyed up about working up a good sweat. I certainly got that wish fulfilled. Our joint efforts in push-ups, squats, back extensions, crunches, and a variety of other stations gained us praise from Robbie Ray and gained me a lot of glisten (aka sweat). Fitness training has definitely been doing me some good, although all the water I …

Going Green for the Weekend

Going Green for the Weekend

Our office has always made an effort to be green. We recycle, reuse water bottles, ride our bike to work and around town, and have moved to being almost paperless. At home I also recycle, switch my light bulbs to energy saving and reuse my towels after showers. It’s easy enough to be green at work and home; but what about on vacation? This weekend we went up to Kansas City for a Tegan and Sara concert. My boyfriend and I stayed at the Q Hotel and Spa. Named the first green hotel in Kansas City, the Q is conveniently located …

It’s always an adventure.

It’s always an adventure.

Working out with Robbie Ray is always an adventure. We never know what muscles we’re going to work or how much we’re going to sweat. But I like that about our group fitness sessions; it keeps the experience fresh. Now that the winter has moved over for spring, we’ve moved our Friday workouts from the gym to the streets, parking lots and plazas of Wichita’s Oldtown district. It’s a real treat and all are invited to join us on Fridays in April. We meet at the northeast corner of Museum of World Treasures at 3pm. Bring water, a towel and a …
