The Value of Professional Development

The Value of Professional Development

Professional development is integral to your success in the public relations industry. The field of public relations is constantly changing and you need to set aside time to understand the trends, enhance your skills and be able to implement what you learn to help your business grow. I connected with PR professionals to learn their thoughts on professional development. With all of the organizations, networking events, subscriptions, webinars and conferences how do PR professionals allocate time and money for professional development? “As professionals we need to dedicate time to keeping our business skills sharp and to staying on top of trends and …

The itch to Twitchhike

The itch to Twitchhike

Paul Smith, also known as the Twitchhiker, shared stories about his amazing Twitter adventure at Mead’s Corner on Monday. Smith came up with the idea of Twitchhiker to see how far he could travel around the world in 30 days using Twitter. He had to heavily rely on the generosity of Tweeps to bring him into their home and get him from place to place. One of the reasons I love CA is because it offers great inspiration and insight to the advertising, design, interactive and illustration communities. On their homepage they reserve a spot for recent webpicks. After discussing annual reports the other day, I just had to click on the link to the Salvation Army Annual Report. The slideshow of photos on the homepage helps tell the story of the Salvation Army. I assume the report was mailed to …

#journchat

#journchat

Last night I took part in #journchat. If you aren’t familiar with #journchat it’s a forum for journalists, public relations professionals and bloggers to discuss some of the latest trends and topics taking place in our industry. At 7 p.m. on Mondays you will find tweeps across the country begin the hashtag brigade with salutations and introductions. Some of the topics discussed last night included the termination of Rick Sanchez, media and political campaigns, citizen journalism, LA Times selling their front page and about seven other topics. I must say it was a great experience learning from peers and being …
