More Fit For Golf

For the past few golf seasons I’ve struggled on the back nine with a stiff back, tightening up, and other excuses for a higher score. I had tried to remedy these with stretching exercises done when nobody was looking, sports drinks and hydration and nutrition. Yesterday I was fortunate to play at a client’s fundraiser and, for the first time in years, felt none of these maladies. I still stayed hydrated and kept nuts nearby but I can directly attribute my exercise regimine setup by Robbie Ray. It must have helped my score some but then, it needs a lot …Continue Reading...

N.I.L.F. :: Offensive or Ineffective

An outdoor ad campaign started a few weeks ago for Natural Light beer. It has a background of beer, I guess, with the letters N.I.L.F. Below are the words “Natty I’d Like To Finish.” Apparently this has caused a bit of stir in conservative Wichita, KS. Clear Channel Outdoor decided this week to pull the ad after a complaint. I’m not sure but the complaint seems to have been to the Wichita Eagle rather than Clear Channel. (http://bit.ly/cJ8ksP). It seems to me that Ron Blue, Manager of Clear Channel Outdoor in Wichita, was weak in his response to the complaint. After …Continue Reading...

Not All Personal Trainers Are The Same

I have a fairly limited experience with personal trainers. Over the years I’ve had different ideas about what to expect. There’s the drill sergeant, the encouraging words of wisdom, and the exercise video “3 more… 2 more… 1 more… OK.” This week marks the start an 8-week program with Robbie Ray at Fitness with Robbie Ray. My initial kick-off session and a first real workout session with Robbie and my co-workers told me how trainers and programs can be so different. I’ve joined the YMCA twice before and as such, they have offered a few sessions with a personal trainer with the …Continue Reading...

The Urban League of Kansas :: Annual Report

The Urban League of Kansas presents an annual report every year. This year they had two specific goals: 1) make it stand out more; 2) adjust the size so production and mailing would be less expensive than in previous years. Our first step was to adjust the size of the layout of the report.  By going with a non-traditional size, we were had a piece that would stand out and that could be mailed in a number 11 envelope. Because the client wanted to reinforce their red identity, we used one one color process throughout the report, except on the pages containing …Continue Reading...

Using motion and transitions, the static message captures the attention and effectively delivers the concepts. You need to upgrade your Flash Player to version 9 or later. Continue Reading...

Young Entrepreneurs

I had the great honor today to meet with two students at Newton High School’s YEK (Young Entrepreneurs of Kansas) class. Part of this 2-semester program joins experienced business people with students for one-on-one business plan advising. Advisors spend three 2-hour sessions over something like 6 weeks working with these talented students to craft their business plans. They pick a business concept early on to develop and use it in this somewhat of a practicum. I can tell that this will be rewarding for me. I know they’ll teach me a few things and maybe something good will rub off …Continue Reading...

Child Care Gone Bad

On the way home last night I saw this sign which really made me laugh. We all make mistakes and sometimes they are more noticable than others. This one just seems to be especially ironic. Leno- or Letterman-worthy. Continue Reading...
