Sweet Sweat

Most fitness training days I am looking forward to the workout because, well, they’re fun and I know I’m getting a pay-off (you know that whole swimsuit season coming up). But today’s workout was just great. It’s beautiful outside and I was just keyed up about working up a good sweat. I certainly got that wish fulfilled. Our joint efforts in push-ups, squats, back extensions, crunches, and a variety of other stations gained us praise from Robbie Ray and gained me a lot of glisten (aka sweat). Fitness training has definitely been doing me some good, although all the water I …Continue Reading...

Oh Sunny Day

Sun shinning, birds tweeting, Start-Thinking employees sweating— all in all a lovely day.   Our workout with Robbie Ray today was invigorating.  We warmed up and then went outside to soak up some vitamin D.  Our workout stations were at each light pole and we jogged to each one.  Today the stations were squats, jumping jacks, lunges and calf stretches.  At the end of the street, we turned and jogged all the way back to the gym without stopping. The core workout today focused on our lower abs with “flutter kicks” and our total core with planks.  We even got some …Continue Reading...

Back in the groove

After a rockin’ spring break road trip to the Gulf Coast, I was looking forward to our Monday workout with Robbie. I felt like I had been fairly good over break considering I spent hours of each day walking everywhere (including barefoot on the beach). Robbie warmed us up with our usual stints on the rowing machines, stretched us out and then put us to work. We jumped right into three rounds of cobra push-ups, lunges and touch-the-sky crunches and a jog to the end of the block and back. Then of course back to more exercises. I was introduced to …Continue Reading...

Rain, blues and Osmonds

The first day of the week and the dreary weather described my feelings to the letter. But on the brighter side of things I knew we had our first official training session with Robbie Ray. I went to the gym excited to get working towards those too-tight jeans. After a quick warm up, Robbie had us stretch out just enough to get loose. Fun fact #1: If you stretch too much before working out, you won’t strengthen your muscles because they are too loose. Then it was the moment we’d been waiting for— training time! Robbie had us at four different …Continue Reading...

Pleasantly surprised

We had our first meeting with our new fitness trainer, Robbie Ray and I’m pumped up (no pun intended) to start now. I’m not going to lie, when Kris first said “fitness trainer” to me, I was dreading meeting the guy who would probably be yelling my butt into shape over the next eight weeks, depriving me of my favorite foods and handing me carrot sticks. But Robbie was a lovely surprise: he doesn’t believe in diets and he promised no yelling. He wants us to eat healthier but not cut out our favorite foods completely. Robbie wants us to …Continue Reading...
