INTRUST Bank Arena

INTRUST Bank Arena held their open house event on January 2, 2010. My curiosity made me want to go check out what we’ve all been waiting for. I have to say I was envisioning bigger. This coming from the girl who last saw a concert in the Ford Center in Oklahoma City. Of course the INTRUST arena would not be as big; Wichita is a smaller town. They want to be able to actually sell out events to make it look more attractive for incoming artists.

As my boyfriend and I stood in the crowd to get an entry form for the Golden Ticket, I felt like I was on the farm with a bunch of pecking chickens. People shoving and pushing their way to the front of the line, disregarding anyone in their way. I slowly walked around the outside of the crowd when I noticed a good egg. One gentleman had taken a whole book of entry forms and began handing them out to others behind him. I ended up grabbing a couple from him to avoid flying feathers.

After dealing with the pecking chickens we got down to the floor of the arena to find an extremely long line of kids getting their faces painted. We wondered around some more and tested out the seats. These seats are made for the average size person; not a 6 foot guy who’s legs could hit the back of the person’s head in front of him.

While everyone is gearing up for the first concert, I’m looking forward to the versatility of the arena. Gravity Slashers, a freestyle motocross competition, will take on the arena in February. This will be one of the first events that is not a concert or a Thunder hockey game. In March, Thunder Nationals Monster Jam will test the sound barrier of the arena. But to be completely be broken in, add some elephant poop from the Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus coming in June and you have an arena that can take on anything.
