Kansas People – DVD Marketing Project

I am not sure how many of you out there watch KAKE news on channel 10, but they have a series that runs on Sundays called Hatteberg’s People. I suggest if you have not seen this you need to go and watch as many episodes you can. This is one of the most interesting things that I have ever seen. Did you know that one Kansas man owns the last Kodachrome Film processing machine left in the world? Neither did I but thanks to Larry Hatteberg, now I do.  There are more than 1000 examples that I could share, and if you are a fan of you segment, you probably have one or two favorites yourself. And now, for all of us – new and old fans alike, we are now able to watch these episodes over and over and over again.

A short time ago Larry came to us to help him build a web site to launch his new Kansas People DVD series. He was looking for an Internet storefront where people could purchase his DVDs, some of the products that his Kansas People have to offer, and that would feature some of his incredible still photography. Larry had Troy Lott and his crew at Intake Studio design his logo and DVD packaging and oversee the DVD production. Armed with their outstanding graphics, our end of the project involved the design and construction of the site and the development of some collateral to promote the DVD to bookstores and other stores around Kansas.

One of the most important things that I learned in school is that as a designer you really need to be a chameleon – to have more than one style. I had been working on a lot of modern minimalist designs and then this project came along that is very different – more of an Old West meets modern cowboy vibe. As you will see below, the collateral that we came up with has a consistent look and feel and from an enduser standpoint it is very effective because although we mixed in a lot of different elements from the DVD, the body or meat of the documents are very easy to read and the information is quickly accessible.

While I’ve got your attention, check out the website and maybe buy some stuff.  Christmas is coming soon and I am sure there is at least one person in your family that would appreciate the stories featured on Larry Hatteberg’s Kansas People.
