#ThinkingFit program wins award

The Health and Wellness Coalition of Wichita announced this week that Start-Thinking is the recipient of the 2010 Working Well Award in the category of Most Innovative. To see the winners of the small business and large business awards click here.

We were awarded based on our innovative approach to incorporate physical activity in the work place. Through our ThinkingFit program we work out three times a week with a trainer who motivates us to stay on track and accomplish our fitness goals. We also have a company bike that we use for running errands, going to lunch or attending meetings. It’s been nice to work in an environment where health and fitness is encouraged.

This summer we started getting a CSA share from Home Grown Kansas at the Old Town Farmers Market. Buying locally grown fresh vegetables and herbs not only saves us money but helps us to plan out meals and focus on nutrition. We’ve been putting up recipes on our ThinkingFit blog that incorporates the ingredients we get on Saturdays in our CSA.

All of those sweaty and painful workouts that we endure have paid off in more ways than one. The award ceremony will be held at the Working Well Conference on August 24 at the Hyatt Regency hotel. This year’s conference will focus on the 7 Benchmarks of Worksite Wellness and how businesses can develop and maintain a wellness program for their employees.

Check back after the conference for a recap and photos from the event. In the meantime, check out our ThinkingFit blog to learn exercises and recipes you can incorporate into your health regimen.
