Social Media Policies

As prevalent as social media is, there are plenty of companies that are ignoring what we all recognize as the future of communication. This is mostly based on fear; fear of the unknown and fear of how SM could impact their business in a negative way. To combat that fear, more companies are implementing social media policies for their employees. I would say the greatest fear in SM is the lack of control that the company has over their brand. Mark Eber, from IMRE Baltimore said, “When it comes to social marketing, legal tends instinctively to want to shut things …Continue Reading...

The Social Media and Business Relationship

June 30 was the inaugural Social Media Day. Wichita tweeps started the celebration early as we began the morning at one of our favorite spots, Mead’s Corner, to listen to our guest speaker, Tom White Jr.. Tom is the general manager of Suzuki of Wichita and although on the surface social media and car sales seem an unlikely pair, he is proving that they can be quite complementary. When Tom joined the dealership in 2007, they were averaging three sales a month. Now, they average 103 sales a year. Needless to say, this feat was impressive considering that his team sold …Continue Reading...

Communication Redefined

Clark Harris attempted to do what most would think is absurd, if not impossible. He communicated for one month using only social media networks to help raise money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. The project evolved from a 2006 direct mail campaign that he worked on to help raise money for the same cause. His goal was to get 20,000 people to donate $5 to LLS in honor of his mother who, lost her battle with cancer in 2009. Soon after, he became @silentClark and only communicated through Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, Flicker, Linked-In and Google Chat. Email, text messaging, writing, …Continue Reading...

Are You Stuck in the Time Suck?

If you are reading this from your work computer, I would be willing to bet that you have more than five windows open at any given time. If you’re anything like my boss, you might have twelve. Sure, we all like to think that we can do five things at once, but, as the minutes tick by; our overall productivity seems to tell us otherwise. This is what some would refer to as the time suck. Research has shown that multi-tasking can make a person less productive and in the end, experience more stress. Time management, in my humble opinion, …Continue Reading...

RBBB Media Day

As you all may know, the Greatest Show on Earth is here in Wichita through Sunday! Today John and I were up before sunrise as we escorted Surly to various media outlets. First, we went to KWCH for the morning show. Surly, whose “real” name is Sean Davis showed viewers how to make his culinary masterpiece, “Chicken a la Ringling.” Brian and Felicia were uber impressed with his creation and let me tell you, the smell was amazing! Next, we went to Clear Channel and met up with the AntMan, Chase and Cole and had a blast! Surly is quite …Continue Reading...

The Greatest Show on Earth

We are promoting Zing Zang Zoom, the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus’ latest creation and I need to confess that I may, or may not be, afraid of clowns. I realize that this is a completely irrational fear and at this stage in my life (early twenties), I should be over it. So as I prepare myself for my first circus, I choose to dwell on the positive. The impressive illusions. The spectacular stunts. The awesome animals and yes, even the colorful clowns. Not to mention the awesome swag, check out this magical mug; it takes me back to my …Continue Reading...
